Neighbouring attractions
For a change of scenery, you can visit the neighbouring village of Psaropouli (10-minute drive away) or the village of Pefki (20-minute drive) which are ideal for organised beaches and all-day beach bars. At Pefki kite-surfing is available for all levels of ability and there is also the option to take a daily cruise to the island of Skiathos.
Well worth a visit are the petrified forest/mammal museum of Kerasia and the Drimona Waterfalls where you can wander along the trails and swim in the waterfall pools, just a 40-minute drive away. This excursion can be combined with a visit to the picturesque seaside village of Limni with a pretty harbour on the west side of Evia. On the way to Limni, you can also visit the monastery of Saint David.
For those feeling more adventurous, there is the impressive gorge of Nileas river for trekking within a lush forest environment. In some parts of the gorge, you will need to get in water over a meter deep so having swimming gear is a must.
The spa town of Loutra Edipsos in the north-west of the island is steeped in history and is most famous for its therapeutic thermal baths since ancient times. Edipsos is a 50-minute drive away and there you can find hotels with spa facilities and also other baths open to the public.
From Edipsos you can also visit the small village of Agios Georgios where you can take a boat trip to the small islands of Lichadonisia, known as the Seychelles of Greece because of the crystal blue waters.
